VERY BEAUTIFUL "DANCING" IVORY SCULPTURE BY Joe DESCOMPS (1869-1950) Signed subject on the terrace. It rests on a circular marble base signed L.SOSSON. H subject: 24 cm Total height: 33.5 cm Emmanuel-Jules-Joseph Descomps, known as Joé Descomps or Descomps-Cormier, was a French sculptor and goldsmith, born on 18 January 1869 in Clermont-Ferrand and died on 24 April 1950 in Paris. Sculptor, chiseler, master goldsmith, Joé Descomps was a pupil of Louis-Auguste Hiolin and Alexandre Falguière. He was present at the Chicago exhibition in 1893. He works with Frédéric Boucheron. Member of the French Artists' Society since 1883 and exhibits at the Salon des artistes français from 1891 to 1937; mention in 1898, third medal in 1921, second in 1925, first in 1928. Louis Sosson (active between 1905 and 1930) is a French ivory sculptor who worked as an artist from 1905 to 1930. Most of his works date from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco period. He mainly created chryselephantine statuettes, in ivory and bronze, representing beautiful women, often in shows, and dancers.
