LAP "LA FÉE ÉLECTRICITÉ" cardboard by Raoul DUFY (1877-1953) Panel in Lap sepia on beige background Manufactured by Antony and Speranza Calo Séailles, circa 1937 Monogrammed "D" lower left and "SCS" lower right 67 x 46 cm Bibliography: the subject is illustrated in Bernard Dorival, "La belle histoire de la fée électricité de Raoul Dufy", La Palme, Paris, 1953 Probably the largest painting in the world (600 square meters!), "La fée électricité" is by Dufy. Painted for the 1937 International Exhibition, it was a monumental commission for the curved wall of the hall of the Palais de la Lumière et de l'Électricité, built by Robert Mallet-Stevens on the Champ-de-Mars. The composition features an anthology of characters, ranging from scientists of the time and of the past, to modern uses of the fairy, and all the way back to Zeus, powering a generator with his lightning.
