ANTIQUE AND RARE KIRMAN-LAVER RUG (PERSIA), EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Wool velvet on cotton foundation. Delicate star-shaped honeycombing forms the multitude of tiles in this mosaic-like field. Each tile is decorated with multicolored fruit trees. Fruit bowls are also depicted. The succession of different colors forms nested lozenges or chevrons in opposition, providing an optical effect for this exceptional carton. A burgundy and a navy counter-border frame the main cream border, all three with garlands of multicolored flowers, very exuberant in the main border. Expert: Mr. Kassapian Dimensions: 290 x 210cm.
