He became a companion in the Tour de France and moved to Paris at the age of 17, where he frequented museums and was particularly interested in the works of Jean-François Millet, Camille Corot and Gustave Courbet3. Mobilized successively in the 26th battalion of foot chasseurs and the 103rd infantry regiment1, he nevertheless fought in the First World War as a prisoner of war in a German camp, and it was while painting his comrades in detention and his jailers that he decided to devote his life to painting. It was thus in October 1919 that we find his name among the participants in the 3rd Exposition de l'Arc-en-ciel, a Franco-Anglo-American group.
Between the two wars, he gained a certain renown. He travels and works in Europe, North Africa and the United States. From 1919 to 1935, he organized in Montmorillon (Vienne), his native town, a museum to which he donated his collection.
He is a member of the Société coloniale des artistes français, the Salon des indépendants, the Salon d'automne and the Salon des Tuileries.
