JACQUES DUVAL-BRASSEUR - Lot 103
JACQUES DUVAL-BRASSEUR MAGNIFICENT AND SUBLIME HORSE IN GOLDEN BRASS BRASS BRASS, SKATE AND JACQUES DUVAL LAQUE (Born in 1934) Signed and dated 78 on the tail. 62 x 93 x 22 cm Born in 1934 in France, Jacques Duval Brasseur is an artist and sculptor. He breaks up with his family at the age of 17 and leaves for Cherbourg where he will enroll in the Beaux-Arts. It is these courses that will confirm an artistic vocation that he feels since his early childhood. A company entrusts him with a mission, which will lead him to start creating objects, to sculpt using all the materials he can recover from breakers or scrap metal workers. Animal representation is omnipresent in Jacques Duval Brasseur's work. He works on the technique of instinct, groping, trying to tame the materials and engaging in a struggle with them to make the most of them in order to create original works. He creates his first abstract sculptures using various materials such as sheet metal from cars. It was also at this time that the artist César, an artist whom Jacques Duval Brasseur did not know, also drew his fantastic bestiary from scrap metal. This fantastic dimension is common to both artists. Jean Dive, who noticed and appreciated his creations, allowed Jacques Duval Brasseur, in 1969, to present four large abstract sculptures at the Galerie Maison et Jardin. This is when the success of our artist began. Many famous collectors will place orders, for example the Shah of Iran who acquired one of his most beautiful pieces or the actor David Niven.
