VERY NICE CHEST OF DRAWERS IN MARTIN VARNISH STAMPED DEMOULIN It opens to two drawers on two rows without crosspieces. Gold decoration on black background with sinister landscapes animated with pagodas, boats and characters. Beautiful rocaille ornamentation of chased and gilded bronzes with staples, acanthus and shells. Aleppo breccia marble top. Louis XV period 87 x 129 x 87 cm Crack on the side and missing lock Jean Demoulin (1715-1798), cabinetmaker to the Prince of Condé, was born in Selongey in the Côte d'Or. He seems to have done his apprenticeship in Dijon, before coming to Paris around 1749 where he obtained his Letters of Mastery. However, he returned to Dijon a few years later where he set up his workshop. He will obtain with his sons, Jean-Baptiste and Bertrand, on September 22, 1781, the Brevet d'Ebénistes of the Prince de Condé, Governor of Burgundy. He worked until 1788.
