IMPORTANT AND ORIGINAL BIDJAR RUG (PERSIA), CIRCA 1870/80, WOVEN ON WOOL WARPS Wool velvet on wool foundation. A ruby-red, crenellated hexagonal field supports an original midnight-blue central medallion and its gem-shaped floral pendants, inlaid with polychrome "Herati" motifs. Four Prussian blue spandrels with stems and branches, adorned with diamonds and flowers in profusion, frame the whole. Three borders, two brick and one anthracite, all with rich garlands of multicolored flowers, are flanked by a wide ivory outer border with floral crenellations. Sublime graphics.
