TABLEAU "JOCKEYS AT THE PADDOCK" by A.bressin (1878-1918) Framed oil on canvas, signed lower right Size: 56 x 86 cm Good condition Sold by designation A French painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, his fame was built around his figurative work of riders, in mainly sporting subjects (horse racing). He specialized in painting horses, portraits and genre scenes. The artist's debt to his master, Thomas Couture, can be seen in his rough, material rendering, although his compositions are inspired by Alfred de Dreux, Henri Auguste d'Ainecy Montpezat (1817-1859), John Frederick Herring Sr. and, above all, John Frederick Herring Jr. Bressin is one of the many painters of the 19th / 10th century, starting with Géricault, who devoted their art to the horse. He was assistant professor of drawing at the École du Haras du Pin, where he painted many portraits of the national stallions. Well-known in the sporting world, he exhibited his portraits of racehorses at the Concours Hippique every year, winning the appreciation of breeders and connoisseurs alike.
