LAKE IN WINTER" by Bernard GANTNER (1928-2018) Framed mixed media under glass, signed and dated "79" lower right Size: 47 x 55 cm (when viewed) Good condition Bernard Gantner was introduced to oil painting by Léon Delarbre, then curator of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Belfort (since 1929). He went to Paris, where he briefly attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, then took courses at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and above all trained as a painter by frequenting museums and galleries. He is best known for his poetically dense winter landscapes. His drawings, captured in direct contact with nature, are the source of most of his oils, watercolors and lithographs (produced on stone, not zinc). For more than 50 years, he produced 80 oils a year, 4,000 pieces, 700 watercolors, 500 lithographs, 100 etchings and the illustrations for 11 bibliophile works.
