Eugène Feyen entered Paul Delaroche's studio at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After practicing photography with his brother, he returned to painting.
He exhibited at the Salon from 1841 to 1908, winning medals in 1866 and 1880.
He was awarded the Légion d'honneur in 1881.
Eugène Feyen settled in Cancale in summer, spending several months a year painting views of the oyster harvest and the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
His naturalistic paintings are appreciated in France and abroad.
Odile LIENHART recounts a little-known anecdote in Pays lorrain (1997).
The young Eugène had made a life-size copy of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. After the painting was stolen in 1911, the museum offered to buy the copy from one of his heirs, but this was unsuccessful, as the original was found shortly afterwards.
This "unknown masterpiece" disappeared in 1916 in a fire at the Magasins Réunis where Eugène CORBIN had been exhibiting it.
