MÉCHED SIGN CARPET (IRAN), MID-20TH CENTURY - Lot 241
MÉCHED SIGN CARPET (IRAN), MID-20TH CENTURY
Wool velvet on cotton backing.
A cherry-colored field covered with an exuberant, polychrome floral sowing hosts a salmon mandorla medallion with a vegetal cross, framed by a midnight-blue, poly-lobed "molded" cruciform structure with multicolored floral scrolls and pendants.
Four navy spandrels with undulating arabesques and blossoming corollas encircle the whole. The main night border features a succession of magnificent flowers, set against a rich plant garland. It is flanked by four sky and ivory counter-borders with garlands of flowers. Cherry outer braid. Signed "0h almighty". Magnificent composition.
