YAZD CARPET (IRAN), MID-20TH CENTURY Wool velvet on cotton backing. The outer frame is composed of a navy main border with a garland of interwoven old rose, royal blue and emerald branches, where four angular medallions and four turquoise vegetalized side boxes, embellished with a floral wreath, are arranged. Four cream and ivory counter-borders with garlands of flowers complete the set. It encloses an elongated ruby field with alcoves, into which a large oblong cruciform medallion with a navy arrow, richly polychromed on the inside and with a bluish outer floral crown, is carved. The medallion itself is bordered by a royal blue inner frame with a semiset of florets, divided by four angular ivory and sky boxes with a starry vegetal composition. Ivory inner border and multicolored flower garland wreath adapting to the contours of the field. Serrated ruby braid. Sublime "holy book cover" decoration.
