VERY NICE AND MONUMENTAL TABLE "LANDSCAPE... - Lot 221 - Paris Oise Enchères
VERY NICE AND MONUMENTAL TABLE "LANDSCAPE ANIME A ANNONAY" by Jacques H. VAN DER BURCH (1796-1854) Very nice oil on canvas signed and dated 1838 in the lower center. Very nice and imposing gilded stucco wood frame with shells and rinceaux decoration. 104 x 145 cm As is, restorations to be planned Our artist's family was originally from French Flanders. Count Dominique Van der Burch (1722, Lille - 1785, Montpellier) moved to Montpellier in 1749 to practise botany, and especially painting; he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. His son Jacques-André-Edouard (1756, Montpellier - 1803, Paris) also took up painting, in a neo-classical landscape style, but died early. Representing the third generation, Jacques-Hippolyte was also a landscape painter, trained by David, Guérin and Mulard (himself a pupil of David), and travelled extensively: Normandy, Ile de France, Auvergne, Pyrenees, Dauphiné, Provence, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. He exhibited more than 70 works at the Salon between 1823 and 1853. He was the brother of the writer and vaudevillist Emile Van der Burch (1794-1862).
