Henry MALFROY
Painting "LES MARTIGUES" by Henry MALFROY (1895-1944) Oil on canvas signed lower left 25,5 x 55 cm Piece on the back Henri MALFROYou MALFROY-SAVIGNY Painter of landscapes, seascapes. Postimpressionist born January 15, 1895 in Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône). Died in 1942. He did his apprenticeship at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with his father Charles Malfroy, with whom he is often confused. He exhibited regularly in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants until 1934. Adopting a technique close to impressionism, he painted the coasts and ports of the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var, but also landscapes of Paris and the banks of the Seine. Settled in Martigues, he broadened his touch and brightened up his compositions, coming closer to the Provençal landscape painters, such as Ziem.
