EIGHTEENTH CENTURY TAPESTRY PANEL, FROM THE WORKSHOPS OF GUI - Lot 242
EIGHTEENTH CENTURY TAPESTRY PANEL, FROM THE WORKSHOPS OF GUILLAUME WERNIERS IN LILLES, AFTER A CARTON FROM THE SCHOOL OF DAVID TENIERS. In wool and silk. Here, on the banks of a river, a milkmaid converses with a farmer beside a pair of cows, while below, a shepherd listens to a flute tune played by a cowherd, and ducks frolic along the banks. Country themes were frequently interpreted in workshops throughout France and Flanders. Indeed, this type of tapestry panel was very popular at the time. In the lower right-hand corner of the panel field, the abbreviation "G.WERNIERS L + F" stands for Guillaume Werniers Lilles (+fleur de lys) France. A beautiful frame border enhances this tapestry. Dimensions : Height : 360cm ; Width ; 380cm Good condition Sold by designation
