POLAR BEAR" SCULPTURE by Georges Lucien GUYOT (1885-1972) - Lot 175
POLAR BEAR" SCULPTURE by Georges Lucien GUYOT (1885-1972) Bonze in brown patina, signed and numbered "2/12" on the terrace. Foundry stamp "Susse Frs Paris cire perdue", posthumous casting. Dim: 18 x 30 x 9 cm approx. Good condition. A familiar figure in Montmartre, Georges Guyot was a guest at the Bateau-Lavoir from the time of Cubism. In 1931, he joined the Groupe des Douze, founded by François Pompon and Jane Poupelet, which included sculptors such as Marcel Lémar, Paul Jouve, André Margat, Jean-Claude de Saint-Marceaux, Georges Hilbert and even painter Adrienne Jouclard. After the Liberation, he was elected mayor of Neuville-sur-Oise. Very much in vogue in his day, he had to wait until 1970 for an exhibition devoted solely to his work. He occupied Picasso's studio at Bateau-Lavoir, where he died on the last day of 1972.
